While young Hojlund was not even named as part of Denmark's squad for the recent World Cup, Mbappe simply sparkled yet again after netting eight goals in Qatar as Les Bleus reached the final, memorably netting a hat-trick in the showpiece thriller with Lionel Messi's Argentina.

Such exploits left former United man Rio Ferdinand to suggest that the Paris native is now "the best" in the world, with it hard to argue that Hojlund – who bagged just nine Serie A goals last term – is anywhere close to reaching such heights.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils have the financial muscle to be able to pull off such a mouthwatering deal, yet throwing money at Mbappe is likely to be worth every penny.

Rangers could finally get a deal done to bring in Jose Cifuentes this summer, with Football Insider reporting that a transfer is nearly complete after a “breakthrough in talks”.

How many games has Jose Cifuentes played?

The 24-year-old currently plays in the USA for Los Angeles FC, and it is with the American side where he has really begun to make a name for himself. Despite being a midfielder, he has hit a double-digit amount of goal contributions in his last two campaigns and has also bagged several already in 2023 despite starting only 13 times for the side so far this season.

Playing 19 times in the league this year, he has managed one goal and three assists. It means that he now has over 100 games for the club during his stint there and has a return of 14 goals and 16 assists in the MLS for them.

He didn’t break onto the scene with the American outfit though. He instead was given his league debut by Universidad Catolica del Ecuador as a 16-year-old in his native country. Despite being extremely young, he played five times that season, before managing a further three appearances in the Ecuadorian Serie A a campaign later. After building on his experience and managing 17 more appearances in 2019 for the club, he was duly snapped up by his current team.

The Gers signed former Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland during the summer and with the nine-cap England international set to begin the season as the number one choice between the posts, McCrorie isn’t prepared to revert to a backup option having featured regularly for the club during the final part of the 2022/23 season.

According to Sky Sports News, Manchester United have made a bid worth €45 million (£38.5 million) to try and land Onana's signature this summer while talks over a move for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund are continuing.

The report states that there is a gap in valuation between the two clubs; however, optimism exists that a compromise can be agreed upon between Inter Milan and Manchester United.

As per 90min, Inter Milan are holding out for around €60 million (£51 million) before considering selling the £63k-a-week ace, though Manchester United are willing to pay a maximum of €50 million (£43 million) for the 27-year-old stopper and believe that they have a strong hand in discussions.

Other names have also emerged on Manchester United's goalkeeper target list, including Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow, who could be available for a fee in the region of £25 million.

Brighton & Hove Albion stopper Robert Sanchez has emerged as a cheaper alternative if Manchester United fail in their endeavours to bring in Onana and would cost around £30 million to bring to Old Trafford, as per The Daily Mail.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, transfer insider Jones expects progress on Onana's proposed move to Manchester United imminently.

Jones stated: "The fallout from the weekend is that United do intend to stay on the trail of Onana but they have been cautious not to rush into their offer for him.
